How to Fuel Your Body Well! (Even While Attending Holiday Events)
The holiday season is a time of joy, celebration, and food. With gatherings and feasts around every corner, it can be easy to overindulge in sugary snacks and processed foods. But how do you fuel your body in a way that leaves you feeling energized and healthy throughout the festivities?
My mom was born in Argentina, where fresh, unprocessed foods are a way of life. During a recent trip to Argentina, I had a chance to reflect on how food choices impact our energy levels. For instance, in Argentina, I ordered salads that were dressed simply with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. No heavy dressings full of artificial ingredients—just fresh, wholesome ingredients that fueled my body in the best way possible.
This experience made me realize how much the quality of our food choices affects how we feel. The next time you’re offered sugary treats or processed foods at a holiday gathering, think about how your body will feel after consuming them. Most people report feeling lethargic, bloated, and unmotivated after indulging in too many processed foods or sugary snacks. But don’t worry, you can still enjoy the season and feel great!

When it comes to party snacks, make protein your first choice. Proteins help you feel fuller longer and give you the energy needed to keep your spirits high. If you’re still hungry after eating protein-rich snacks, you can indulge in the other treats, but by then, you’re likely to be more mindful of your choices.

Instead of reaching for sugary treats or refined carbs, look for complex carbohydrates. These include sweet potatoes, whole grains, and vegetables. Unlike simple carbs (like white bread or candy), complex carbs digest slowly, keeping your energy levels steady and preventing the sugar crashes that often follow holiday indulgences.
