At the start of each new year, many people choose a word to guide their journey. This year, after reflecting in a church counseling coalition meeting, I realized that my word for 2025 isn’t necessarily “growth” or “trust” but “space.” The word might seem simple, but its significance is profound—space to grow, space to trust, and space for myself and others. As someone who often crams every task into my day, the idea of making space for myself and my loved ones is a challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to enhance my mental health and quality of life.

While I wasn’t initially sold on the “word of the year” concept, a podcast I listened to from Patrick Bet David, a successful entrepreneur, inspired me to reconsider. If someone with his achievements values the power of a guiding word, maybe there’s something to it after all.
