Embrace Your Badass: Celebrating Women’s Strengths in Business and Life
March is here, and with it comes the celebration of Women’s History Month—a time to reflect on the incredible achievements and contributions of women throughout history and embrace your badass. My marketing director, Dedra, reminded me of this, and I thought it would be a perfect moment to reflect on my own journey and the story behind Solace Counseling, our women-owned group practice.
Today, all six of us at Solace are women, but we absolutely welcome the idea of collaborating with male clinicians in the future! Our journey as a team has been shaped by not just me, but by every single person who works at Solace, and by the partnership that helped make our practice possible. It’s been this collaboration and support that have allowed us to grow and serve the mental health needs of Colorado Springs.
A Story of Teamwork: Why I Embrace My Husband’s Support
There’s been a growing narrative that women should be “independent” and never need a man, but I’d like to share a little story that goes against this idea. I started Solace in 2020, and the driving force behind that decision was my husband—who encouraged me to follow my dream of starting a private practice. He didn’t just support me emotionally, but also encouraged me to pursue my passion for psychosexual evaluations, something I had always wanted to do.
At the time, I was working part-time in agency work while raising our daughter, and I made the difficult decision to quit that job and focus on building Solace. But here’s the twist: While I’ve been working hard to grow this practice, my husband has been the one providing for our family financially. And rather than feeling resentful about this, I embrace it because it highlights the power of teamwork.
We work as a team—he’s been understanding of my passion and long hours, and I respect the sacrifices he’s made for our family. It’s this sense of partnership that allows us to thrive, both as a family and as individuals in our professional pursuits.
Women Are Badass: Embrace Your Unique Strengths
In today’s world, we often hear about the struggles women face and the obstacles we’ve overcome. But I believe it’s equally important to celebrate the unique qualities that make us amazing. Women are multifaceted and powerful—we juggle multiple roles, from nurturing our families to excelling in our careers. We are skilled multitaskers, deeply in touch with our emotions, and gifted at building authentic relationships.
Men and women both bring unique strengths to the table. While men may be more biologically inclined to be problem solvers and providers, women are often better nurturers, caretakers, and communicators. These qualities are valuable, both in the workplace and in our personal lives.
As women, we have an incredible ability to balance work and family life, care for those around us, and maintain a sense of empathy and authenticity. These qualities empower us to connect deeply with others and overcome any challenges we may face.
The Takeaway: Keep Going and Embrace Your Badassery
If you’re a woman reading this, I want to remind you that you are uniquely equipped to achieve your goals. Your strengths—whether they be your nurturing nature, multitasking ability, or emotional intelligence—are the qualities that will help you succeed. And if you find yourself struggling, don’t give up. Ignore the negative stereotypes or societal pressures that try to define your worth.
Remember, you are the author of your own story, and you have the power to shape it however you choose. Embrace your badass and take pride in everything that makes you who you are.
In the end, women are undeniably amazing, and when we work together—whether with other women or with supportive partners—we can accomplish anything.
Let’s continue to celebrate our strengths and push forward to create the future we deserve.
